MUNI is the logo for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation. It was designed by Walter Landor in the 1970s, which is why I wanted to mention it. The same logo being used for 40 years without being redesigned really speaks to the timelessness of the image. This is hard to come by in a day and age where everything has to be the newest, the most modern, the highest tech... However in logo design, one of the keys to creating a great brandmark is making sure that the logo will be relevant, good looking, and effective regardless of time. Landor certainly accomplished this with his MUNI logo.
This is one of my all-time favorite logos. I'm a sucker for a logo that incorporates a picture image and the letters of the company name. The MUNI logo is one the best examples of this. I'm not bias because my Dad worked for MUNI for 15 years :) I was in love with this long before they hired him!
